McCloud leads Texas State to 41-9 dismantling of Arkansas State

The Kansas City Current, buoyed by the efforts of Temwa Chawinga, beat Bay FC 1-0 at PayPal Park in San José, California, on Saturday. Chawinga scored in the 35th minute to break the NWSL single-season scoring record for goals.

It was Chawinga's 19th goal of the season, breaking the mark set by Sam Kerr with the Chicago Red Stars in 2019.

Chawinga's goal came from a right-footed shot outside the box that found its way into the bottom left corner of the net. The Kansas City defense held strong throughout the match, with goalkeeper Almuth Schult making two saves to keep a clean sheet.

Bay FC (9-1-14) struggled offensively despite seven overall shots and holding possession for 56% of the game. Penelope Hocking and Deyna Castellanos each had shots on target. Katelyn Rowland made three saves for Bay FC.

For Kansas City Current (14-7-3), Nichelle Prince was active upfront with three shots, including two on target. Lo'eau LaBonta also contributed significantly with two shots and an assist leading to Chawinga's goal.
